Hotel Management

With Hotel Management ambitious students become professionals in the international hotel industry. Besides excellent, worldwide highly regarded education we offer students a unique campus, a private hotel and a pleasant student time in one of the oldest cities of the Netherlands.

In our own Teaching Hotel you will learn about all the facets of the profession. You will also deal with 'real life' company assignments and international internships. And last but not least: we offer exchange programmes with other institutes in Europe and beyond.

International students

We offer a Dutch and an English language flow and you will meet many international students from different cultures. At school you make friends for life because you study and work together on projects. Many of the students spend their free time together too. In that respect, the school and Maastricht offer you great opportunities.

Lower tuition fee for first-year students
If it is the first time you are enrolling in a bachelor's degree programme, then you may be eligible to pay only half of the statutory tuition fees for the first year when you are an EU-citizen.

Hotel Management: Course Content

In the first year you will get familiar with the hotel industry. You will follow two modern foreign languages and courses such as marketing, financial management and statistics. This knowledge will be further explored in the second year.

Hotel Management and Change Management dominate the third year. In this phase you need to show that you can also function on a strategic level. You also choose a specific tracks in which you specialize in the last year and a half of the programme.

Practice

You’ll get practically oriented education. We work a lot with keynote speakers. These are mainly alumni who have spread out all over the world. They will gladly tell you about the most recent developments within their field. The projects during the study are not fictional but real. In the third year you will work out a realistic business case for an existing hotel. In the final year you will get a consultancy assignment for an external client. As a team, you will investigate and solve a complex management problem. You will finish the assignment with a presentation to the client.

Internships

In the first year of the bachelor hotel management you will get a practical training at the Teaching Hotel. In the second year you will do a five-month internship abroad. The last five months of the fourth year are reserved for a management internship in The Netherlands or any other country.

The management internship is the perfect preparation for your first real job. It is not uncommon for a trainee to be offered a contract afterwards. It is therefore important to choose a suitable internship. Depending on your chosen track, this will be a hotel or another hospitality-related organization.

Exchange

You can participate in an international exchange programme in your third year. This is especially interesting for those who want to gain more international experience. The hotel school works together with universities in Europe, South Africa, Russia, China and Chile.
