This programme is designed for you if your future career plans or personal interests involve developing advanced language skills combined with practical knowledge of the historical, socio-political and cultural aspects of English-language texts. You will study practical English, exploring a wide range of styles and forms of expression in relation to diverse cultural topics, such as history and the postcolonial impact of the Commonwealth of Nations, as well as cultural globalisation. At the same time, you will have the opportunity to familiarise yourself with psychological approaches to language learning and methods of language processing.Through courses such as Fundamentals of Entrepreneurship for Language Professionals, you will also gain essential business knowledge required for a career related to languages. The programme integrates language proficiency, cultural studies, literature and linguistics, while placing strong emphasis on practical communication skills and intercultural understanding.Graduating from this programme opens up numerous career paths, including work as a translator, teacher, or a professional in companies cooperating with international partners.The ideal candidate is someone with a passion for languages, open to new perspectives, and eager to develop in an international context.

The English for Knowledge, Culture and Innovation offers an excellent opportunity of studying English in depth and acquiring advanced language skills as well as learning about language science and language diversity.

Admission Requirements

 

Main Requirements:

 

  • Legalised High School graduation certificate or equivalent ( IB or EB diplomas - legalisation is not required )
  • High School transcript of grades (legalisation is optional)
  • NAWA Director's Individual Recognition Statement*
  • Certificate confirming English language proficiency at B2 level   
  • Passport photocopy or ID card (EU candidates)
  • Digital passport size photo

 

Additional Requirements: Written exam in the form of an essay*

 

* Mandatory if the high school certificate is issued in an educational system outside the EU/EFTA/OECD, United Kingdom, Northern Ireland, Ukraine and China, and if it is not an IB or EB diploma or covered by an international agreement.

 

Please note: Conditional admission is possible without legalisation or the NAWA Director's Individual Recognition Statement.

Scope of entrance exam material and rules:

 

Topics for essay:

  • Chosen work of culture – a book, film, or theatrical performance

 

Formal requirements:

  • length: 1,600 characters (excluding spaces)
  • language: English
  • required elements:
  • introduction
  • presentation of the work: title, author/director, year of creation, genre
  • brief identification of the main theme and context (e.g., literary, cultural, historical)
  • content discussion
  • outline of the plot or main ideas (without excessive summarizing)
  • description of key characters or motifs
  • analysis and evaluation of artistic and substantive aspects (e.g., language, narrative style, composition, acting, directing, visuals)
  • use of philological and literary/film terminology (where applicable)
  • comparison with other works of the same trend/era/author (optional)
  • justification of one’s opinion, identification of strengths and weaknesses
  • conclusion
  • summary of the review
  • overall assessment of the work (e.g., whether it is worth recommending, its values, target audience)

 

Evaluation criteria:

  • structure and organization of the text (0-5 points)
  • style and linguistic correctness (0-5 points) 
  • substantive content (0-5 points)
  • originality of conclusions and argumentation (0-5 points)

 

Points scale: 0-20; Minimum points to pass: 10
The number of places available on the programme is limited.
